Production equipment for stator core of axial flux motor

Axial flux motors gain growing attention in new energy vehicles and aviation for high power density. Their disc-shaped stator cores cannot be manufactured by conventional radial flux motor equipment, so dedicated roll-wound core production lines become critical.

The core unit is the automatic silicon steel strip rolling machine. It continuously winds precision silicon steel tape into integrated toroidal cores, eliminating gaps in stacked laminations and cutting iron loss. Supporting equipment includes high-speed slotting machines, servo tension control modules, insulation coating devices and final testing stations. Servo systems precisely control winding tension to guarantee consistent slot geometry and uniform magnetic performance.

Compared with stamped stacked cores, roll-wound equipment greatly reduces silicon steel scrap and improves material utilization. It ensures structural rigidity and low vibration for high-speed operation. The main technical challenges lie in micron-level dimensional tolerance, stable insulation and repeatable mass production. Well-matched equipment helps axial flux motors achieve low losses, compact size and lower manufacturing cost, supporting the commercialization of Tesla’s next-generation no-rare-earth electric drive.
