Axial flux stator and rotor core
Axial flux motors feature distinctive stator and rotor cores that differ fundamentally from those of traditional radial flux motors, serving as the core components for high-efficiency energy conversion. Unlike cylindrical radial structures, both cores adopt a flat, disc-shaped layout, forming a compact pancake-like motor structure. The magnetic flux travels parallel to the motor rotation axis across the narrow flat air gap between stator and rotor discs, which defines their unique working mechanism.
The stator core, laminated with insulated silicon steel sheets, supports precision-wound copper coils. When energized, it generates uniform axial magnetic fields. The rotor core, usually embedded with permanent magnets, rotates synchronously via magnetic field interaction. This structural design shortens magnetic flux paths significantly, effectively reducing iron loss and flux leakage.
Thanks to their optimized core design, axial flux motors deliver higher power density and torque output with smaller size and lighter weight. Their flat structure also enables efficient heat dissipation and flexible stacking assembly. Widely applied in new energy vehicles, wind power generation and industrial automation, these advanced stator and rotor cores have become key to next-generation high-performance motor development.
